Does red light therapy reduce wrinkles?
Red light at 633 nm and near-infrared at 830 nm produce small but measurable improvements in fine lines, skin texture and collagen density in controlled trials. Effects appear after 8–12 weeks of consistent use and are modest — visible in measurement, subtle in the mirror.
What the evidence actually shows
Typical trials report improved collagen density and reduced fine-line depth; no trial shows an effect comparable to retinoid or in-clinic energy devices.1
What it does not do
It does not lift, does not remove deep static wrinkles, and does not substitute for sun protection.
The dose the trials used
Trials cluster around 4–10 J/cm² per session, 2–5 sessions weekly, for 8–12 weeks.
